Mercedes Vision One-Eleven, A Futuristic Electric Hyper Car With One Eye On The Past
The Vision One-Eleven concept is inspired by the Mercedes C111 prototypes of the 60s and 70s and features lightweight axial flux electric motors.

Mercedes is a brand with a rich history, but it is a brand that has always made progress by pioneering the use of advanced technology years before its competitors. Now the Mercedes Vision One-Eleven blends elements of the past and the future to create a stunning new concept.

While the orange and black color scheme, gull-wing doors, and some design details all make clear references to the firm's C111 experimental concepts from the 1960s and 70s, this isn't a frivolous repetition of an old supercar for cheap clicks. Its lightweight axial-flux electric motor technology, an augmented reality interior display and no doubt some design features show where Mercedes is headed in the years to come.
There's an almost Maserati-like look to the One-Eleven's curved front fenders and nose. This nose contains a large oval air intake topped by a large lower spoiler and is actually a digital panel that can display messages.

The hood line extends over the windshield, the 1,170 mm high (46 inch) roof and rear window to another digital oval panel that seamlessly replicates the one at the front, giving the entire vehicle an organic look. Millions of miles away from the sharp bends and angles of something like the new Lamborghini Revuelto.

There's no visible rear wing on the upper fuselage, but considering what's below, it's probably unspecified, but probably doesn't need a high top-speed rear wing. Mercedes says the massive blue-backlit rear spoiler makes the concept look like it "fused with the road surface," and if it provides as much downforce as it sounds, the One-Eleven probably is.

While the original C-111 concepts were testing rotary and diesel engines, One-Eleven is all about electric power to some extent. Developed with the help of the company's F1 team, the car's batteries feature high-performance liquid-cooled cylindrical cells with 'new' cell chemistry, and twin electric motors are also noteworthy.

Mercedes says the One-Eleven is just a concept and hasn't released any real technical details, so while elements like digital technology and electric powertrain developments are making their way to the showroom, it's not a hypercar as you can see. At least not officially.
